Rock Band vs Guitar Hero

...Ok... don't expect this to be as great as a psxtreme.com review. This is simply my take on both games for the PS3.

I bought Guitar Hero III first and loved it. I then bought Rock Band, and basically stopped playing GH for about 2 weeks... now, there are a few explanations for this...

1) We happened to buy RB because we were having a few people over one night and had a guest in for the week. Therefore, we could utilize the guitar, mic, and drums better rather than just 2 guitars on GH (which btw, are not sold without the entire package as of today).
2) It's simply a better game in all but a few aspects!!!

Below is a very short comparison of both games in a few different facets:

Sound:
Both games are excellent when it comes to sound. GH might have the upper hand, only because there are not drum hits overpowering the speakers.

Difficulty:
GH gets points on the difficulty for the guitar parts, but that is expected due to the name of the game.
RB, on the other hand, isn't as difficult in comparison for the guitar parts, but definately gets the 5 star rating... why? well because it has singing, drums, AND bass/guitar parts (where GH only has bass/guitar parts)

Downloadable Content:
GH has roughly 10 - 15 songs for download last time i checked.
RB has around 30 songs at last viewing... Winner? RB! Plus the songs on RB are better.

Graphics: (and this one is important on a next gen game)
GH has it's own comic-book-style graphics that could be seen on any GameCube/DreamCast system. Very dissapointing for a next-gen game (not matter what the focus is).
RB, however, is great on the graphics front. A few things that rock about RB's graphics: Customizable bandmates, Better than average custom "shopping" (for guitars and gear), and actual representation of your custom avatars on CD covers, posters, cut scenes, etc.

Overall Winner:
ROCK BAND... by a landslide!!!

Buy it today!

...i see myself of a bit of a "Movie Buff" (if anything about me is "buff" it's gonna be movies...) but not the kind that can spout quotes from movies i've only seen once 10 years ago... anyway I'll just list my top 15 faves (in no particular order) and see what you think (I tried to do only 10 but couldn't narrow it down):

Boone Pickens...should think about his "self" more...

...for anyone that doesn't know, I BLEED ORANGE! especially when it comes to Oklahoma State basketball. i also LOVE the sutton dynasty that is Eddie... now, that being said, Sean Sutton IS NOT his father and never will be... it is time for the Sutton name to move on from OSU (not to be forgotten, surely, but the current performance is doing more bad than good)...

as i type this my beloved cowboys are playing the red raiders in stillwater, and we are barely keeping up with Tech. Both teams have a 9-5 record thus far (this is the first conference game of the season). 9-5 is NOT typical of an OSU basketball team, at least not that i'm used to. during my 7 years in stillwater, we went to the NCAA tourney 6 times, the elite 8 once, and the final 4 once. the only two non-tourney appearances (one being the year after i left stillwater) were when sean was the acting head coach for part or all of a season...

it isn't talent that he is lacking, i think its the ability for the players to act as a team instead of individuals, which falls back on the coaching. the only significant difference between eddie's staff and sean's...... is, well, eddie isn't there.

this tells me that sean could possibly be the problem...

the point is that boone pickens needs to poney up the money (whatever it takes) to get Bill Self to truck it down to Orange Country and bring us out of our little slump... oh and a little bird tells me that booney and self have already met to "talk"... hopefully there was a piece of paper with lots of 0's on it involved in that "talk"...

that's all ive got... sorry sean, its time to move on. and that's coming from a true cowboy basketball fan.

The Greatest Game Ever Played...

GOLF! - also a Disney Movie by the same title,(see subject of this blog) which I just finished viewing... IT WAS AWESOME! The way that Disney was able to tell the story of Harry Vardon (6 time British Open winner - a record that STILL stands today!) was truly amazing.

my favorite "golf movie" used to be Tin Cup... now I'm not so sure. I'm not saying that this is a better movie than Tin Cup... but I AM SAYING that everyone that even likes a fresh cut lawn slightly resembling a putting green should rent this on DVD. (Released Tuesday April 11, 2006)

enjoy

College Students...BEWARE!

i was in a staff meeting at work a while back and someone brought up the fact that businesses are now going online and looking up potential new hires' facebook and myspace profiles... they are doing this to see if they have any malicious, character-defining, less-than-sober, or otherwise "generally bad" content within their profiles. (this was pertinent to the meeting because I working for OSU and students need to be aware of this)

I was not aware of these happenings and was a little disturbed... students are getting overlooked/denied for potential jobs because they posted a picture that their buddy took of them bonging a beer the first weekend of their freshmen year of college... HOLY CRAP... this strikes me as the most ridiculous way to discover someones character/work-ethic/ability to excel in one's future job that i have EVER heard of. In fact, i bet that if 80 percent of the businessmen/women that are looking for this information were to try and remember back 20 or 30 years to when they were in college, that they would be fired on the spot, just for thinking about all the drugs and/or alcohol that have passed through their systems, if they were to be held to the same standards that they are holding their potential new hires to...

Nevertheless, companies are doing this... so job-seekers BEWARE! That picture of you and Lisa kissing to "experiment" at a date party your sophomore year - could deem you unworthy of becoming the head janitor at that big oil company you've been eyeing.
